∞ GitHub Now Offers Unlimited Private Repos for Free
GitHub announced,
Today we’re announcing two major updates to make GitHub more accessible to developers: unlimited free private repositories, and a simpler, unified Enterprise offering.
I'm moving all my local game repos (powered by Gogs) to GitHub.
82% Of the Moon Belongs to the Far Side
Everyone knows that moon has a far side. But you might be surprised that the far side consists of 82% of the surface area. We can only see 18% of the moon from the earth.
∞ No More Oppatoo
Allen Pike writes,
They are constantly picking up new endearing habits – little phrases and behaviors that melt your heart and give you joy. Just as quickly though, they are losing them. Before your eyes, she goes from not being able to say “octopus”, to delightfully squealing at the sight of an “oppatoo!”, to just saying “look dada, it’s an octopus.”
And it’s beautiful, and it’s great. But it also hurts your heart a little bit. No more oppatoo.
It is a strange feeling, that hurt. Why would it be sad when she starts to say “octopus”? Or “I want to do it myself”, or “No dada pick me up”? I mean, it’s certainly for the best. I can hardly be her lifelong transportation, caregiver, and translator as it pertains to 8-limbed mollusks.
Mine is only 5 month old, I can already start seeing this. She learned to blow a raspberry a month ago. Then she stopped doing that and it hurts a little. How time flies.
Thanks, Allen.
All the outlets on bottom of the wall should be USB-C. They are powerful enough, and they are much safer for children. No need to child proof the outlets.
AirPower, the thinnest Apple product, no, the thinnest product on the planet. So thin that you can’t even see it.
Happy New Year
Happy New Year! Hope I can double my portfolio in 2019. Here is a good start - concept for my next game BaBalloons.
∞ What Happens to Kid Culture When You Close the Streets to Cars
Jaime Velazquez writes for CityLab,
PONTEVEDRA—Once a city with narrow streets invaded by traffic and city squares more like parking lots, the roads of Pontevedra, Spain, are now often filled with baby strollers and children playing. Kids carry their toys in small backpacks and spread them on the pavement to share with other kids. Playgrounds with swing sets and slides are deliberately unencumbered by fences. “We want children to play all over our city, and to play whatever game comes to mind,” said Cesar Mosquera, the Urban Councilor of Pontevedra.
It is heaven. I feel more strongly about this now that I am a father.
∞ In 2019, Apple Needs to Change iPhone’s Call UI
Spencer Dailey writes,
Right now, any robocall hacker in the world can instantly take over your phone’s screen, knocking you out of your mobile gaming experience, disrupting you as you check out at the store, or breaking your concentration as you try and type out an email.
And disrupt they do, at a massive scale. Several billion fake calls are received each month in the US. Reports show this is a global problem, with Brazilians averaging 37 spam calls per month. Actually, I’m getting a robocall as I type this very sentence, my second today.
At the telelphony-infrastructure level, it’s a supremely difficult problem that lacks a short-term fix because the underlying protocol is hopelessly insecure.
Google has already solved this problem with Pixel's Call Screen. Your move, Apple.
∞ Tumbleweed as Dodgeball
A tumbleweed is a structural part of the above-ground anatomy of a number of species of plants, a diaspore that, once it is mature and dry, detaches from its root or stem, and tumbles away in the wind.
You can find tumbleweeds tumbling along I-5. They are impressive and fun to see from your high speed vehicle. You can even play dodgeball.
∞ Blender 2.8 Beta Is Here
They should really call it Blender 3. What a massive upgrade:
No other release of Blender has been met with so much anticipation! It’s the accumulation of 3 years of time and hundreds of months of work by developers from the Blender community.
After I tried making a 2D game, my heart still belongs to 3D.
